my teaching approach
My goal for all students is to help them develop a beautiful tone, technical ease, and a good ear. When these three issues are in place, playing music is a joy rather than a struggle, and the study will be an exciting challenge rather than a frustrating struggle.
I approach beginning students with a modified Suzuki method which makes use of the very important posture and listening skills that Suzuki emphasizes, while also moving students towards reading and using outside study books. All of my teaching is informed by my study of the Alexander Technique and the Feldenkrais method, both of which are invaluable tools in diagnosing and solving technical issues.
