biography

Eddy Khaimovich, a New York bass player, originally from Israel, recently recorded his first album featuring Grammy Winning trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Since moving to New York in 2001 to attend Manhattan School of Music on full scholarship, Eddy has played with a variety of world renowned jazz musicians.

Eddy Khaimovich was born in Vilnius, Lithuania (former USSR) and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1990. He began playing classical bass at age 15 and soon progressed from classical to contemporary, to world music and finally, at 22, to jazz where his multiform tastes caused him to explore many types of music as a player and a composer. Eddy studied classical bass in Rubin Academy in Jerusalem and jazz bass at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City after his arrival in the United States in 2001, where he was granted a scholarship. During each of the years 1995 to 2003, Eddy was awarded the prestigious America-Israel Cultur al Foundation Grant.

In the classical field, Eddy is performing with such groups, as Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, a cross-over ensemble focusing on music by composers from South and North Americas, as well as fusing classical, jazz and world music, where he is a core member and co-principal bassist, among other ensembles.

On the World Music scene, Eddy has collaborated with the violinist Lara St. John, a Sony Classical recording artist, trumpeter Mark Gould of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed pianist/composer/accordionist Dr. Ronn Yedidia.

In jazz, Eddy keeps a busy schedule touring, performing and recording with various artists in NYC. His recently recorded first CD as a co-leader of a quartet with jazz pianist Roy Assaf, features trumpeter Roy Hargrove in addition to quartet members Robin Verheyen on sax ophones and Ronen Itzik on drums. It is bound for release in September 2008.

my teaching approach

My ultimate goal as an educator is to share my knowledge and experience, inspiring beginning students with a sense of what they can achieve and guiding more advanced pupils in their quest for mastery. Music can be a spiritually enriching part of life, and no one should have to go without the opportunity to experience, appreciate, and, hopefully, practice it.

My personal instrument of choice is the acoustic or electric bass. However, as a classically-trained musician, my qualifications and experience include the teaching of guitar, piano, music theory, jazz, classical and world music ensemble coaching, history of music, composition, and music appreciation generally.
